There will be lots of lingering at the Vail Valley Wine Auction this Thursday. A five-course meal (think sweet peas and calamari soup, and Alaskan halibut with Colorado chanterelle mushrooms) can’t be rushed. Nor should the perusal of to-be auctioned wines (about 100 are on the list) and gift baskets from Vail’s top restaurants.

So take your time, and place a bid for both you and the mountain charities that benefit from the event proceeds.
