We’ve all done it: wrapped a long weekend skiing powder at a resort on the I-70 corridor, packed the car, and checked the clock. It’s only 3 p.m.; maybe there’s still time to beat the traffic. You hop onto I-70, and…wham! Bumper to bumper. If only there were a way to wait it out without springing for dinner or a bar tab at a mountain restaurant. Enter: the Breckenridge Recreation Center. Sure, it’s no ski-in, ski-out condo, but it’s a good place to kill time while I-70 traffic subsides. For $12 per person you can enjoy an après-ski soak in an indoor hot tub, a game on the racquetball court, or a go on a climbing wall. And by the time the rec center closes—8 p.m. on weekends, 9 p.m. during the week—I-70 should be wide open. Bonus: Kids will enjoy the leisure pool, complete with a giant yellow twisty slide, a lazy river, and a rope swing. townofbreckenridge.com
