Editor’s note: The Larimer Summer Film Series is taking a hiatus during the month of July. The good news? The event will continue through the rest of the summer, resuming with Caddyshack on Aug. 1.
We’ve long been fans of outdoor movies in the summer. And although we are die-hard Film on the Rocks groupies, we are stoked for this summer’s newest outdoor cinema experience: the Larimer Square Summer Film Series. Once a month, June through September, the restaurants and shops on downtown’s charming Larimer Square are teaming up with the Denver Film Society and BMW to combine the dinner-and-a-movie idea with the open-air screening concept in a bustling urban setting. Could we love this plan more?
Here’s how it works: On movie night, Larimer Street between 14th and 15th streets will be blocked off so the Larimer restaurants can set up their tables in the middle of the street. Seventeen-foot screens will occupy both ends of Larimer. The sidewalks will be open to the public, and shops will remain open. Two films will screen each night at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Viewers are welcome to stand and/or stroll Larimer Square to watch—yes, there will be popcorn and non-alcoholic drinks for sale—but you can’t bring your own chairs. For the ultimate treat, reserve a table ($20) and get a full-service dinner (not included in reservation fee) from your favorite Larimer Square eatery while you watch. Proceeds benefit the Larimer Arts Association and the Denver Film Society.
Reserve: Make your dining reservations here.
Bonus: BMW is offering test-drives on film nights, 4 to 8 p.m., and will grant you a $1,500 credit toward the purchase of a new BMW after your drive. Sign up here with the code “larimerjune.”
