Brunch in Denver can be a real treat, but chances are you’ve probably also had experiences that left you disappointed, like splurging on eggs you could’ve cooked better at home or wasting $12 on a watery mimosa. Luckily, Narrative (the Jacquard Hotel & Rooftop’s flagship restaurant in Cherry Creek) now serves everyone’s favorite weekend meal, and does it right.
Aside from traditional plates such as French toast and eggs Benedict, the new brunch menu includes some of chef Paul Nagan’s signature specialties, like the Gulf shrimp and grits, which we’d happily eat at any time of day. Folks in search of something lighter should try the seared tuna topped with avocado, cucumber, radish, and a sesame dressing, or muse on the selection of smoothies, smoothie and grain bowls, and fresh-pressed juices in flavors like strawberry-watermelon and grapefruit. The cocktail menu leans hard on literary classics for inspiration: The Gables Mimosa, for instance, is Narrative’s refreshing spin, combining muddled cucumber and fresh mint with sparkling wine and St. George California citrus vodka.
Another must-order: the Jacquard omelet. Chef Nagan follows French technique by delicately cooking the eggs, preserving moisture and preventing browning. The eggs are filled with a thin layer of garlic-herb Boursin cheese and slices of ham before being rolled up. It’s an omelet of such refinement, you may not give the accompanying home fries, toast, and avocado a second thought.
