It’s been pretty quiet around the Denver Broncos’ headquarters in Englewood, which is a good thing, considering the tumultuous off-season the team has had. The latest drama has star wide receiver Brandon Marshall demanding a trade, saying he deserves more money and that the team’s medical staff didn’t properly treat an ailing hip injury that required surgery in the off-season.
There hadn’t been any developments in the story since Marshall hosted a youth football camp in Aurora a few weeks ago, then split town. But yesterday, 7News investigators rustled up a copy of the police report from Marshall’s DUI arrest in 2007. In it Marshall allegedly said, “I hate Denver. I hope I get traded. I hate this f***ing city,” according to the officer who wrote the report.
Marshall also allegedly asked the cop why he wasn’t “out looking for Williams’ killer,” a reference to former Bronco Darrent Williams, who was killed during a New Year’s Eve shooting. Granted, the report is nearly two years old, but it begs the question of whether Marshall was talking under the influence or if he really wanted to get out of town long before coach Josh McDaniels came in–and long before his hip injury.
ESPN writes that although the report has “eye-popping aspects,” it’s irrelevant to the current contract dispute.
