You’ve probably caught a blurry view of the blue-and-red Democratic National Convention license plates on the back of those SUVs whizzing through downtown streets. You might have even thought that one would look great on your office wall after the convention ends. That’s what authorities think happened with five DNC license plates reported missing on Sunday in Adams County. A spokeswoman for the Joint-Information Center that serves as a media hub for Denver police, the Secret Service, and myriad other agencies says “people sometimes like collector’s items.” While the missing plates are a concern and have been flagged, the spokeswoman, who asked not to be named, says authorities “don’t see any security issues” stemming from the theft. Yes, the plates could be put on another vehicle. But often other credentials are used to ensure convention safety, she says, declining to elaborate on what they are for security reasons.
