U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff’s name has been coming up a lot in the national news lately—and probably not in the context he’d prefer.
Conservatives are circling the wagons around the White House, following allegations that Democratic officials offered Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak a spot on a presidential advisory board in an effort to avoid a Democratic primary and clear the way for a more popular candidate (via The Daily Caller). As the White House has denied any impropriety, Romanoff’s name has come up after Republican U.S. Representative Darrell Issa, from California, dug up a months-old report (via The Denver Post) that allegedly claims Romanoff was offered a White House post to drop out of the race against incumbent Democratic Senator Michael Bennet.
“Did White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina offer Colorado Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff a job—because Romanoff isn’t talking?” Issa queried in an e-mail. Romanoff hasn’t answered that question directly, according to some Republican critics.
Meanwhile, some conservatives, including former Colorado Republican congressman Tom Tancredo, are calling for the impeachment of President Barack Obama over the Sestak matter. Controversially, Tancredo, who ran for president in 2008, argues that there may be no investigation of the Sestak matter because Obama is black.
“Will that case be investigated and pursued on the facts, or will it be swept under the rug to protect the first black president? That a possible impeachment inquiry will be evaluated and debated as a ‘racial issue’ shows how far down this dark road we have come,” Tancredo writes on WorldNetDaily.
