For the fashion page in this month’s 5280, we scoured the city in search of upscale rock ‘n’ roll jewelry and came across a Boulder-based designer we just can’t stop talking about. Todd Reed is a self-taught goldsmith and metalsmith whose jewelry is both avant-garde and eco-friendly. Working with ethically mined raw diamonds and recycled gold, Reed weaves the brilliant metal bezel around unpolished, geometric cuts of black, charcoal, pink, and other colored diamonds. The metal tames the stone, and Reed’s bracelets, pendants, earrings, and necklaces are edgy, sophisticated, and highly applauded. In 2005, Reed won Rio Grande’s Saul Bell Design Award, and this year Town & Country granted him the Couture Design Award for Natural Color Diamonds. We look forward to seeing more of Reed’s designs in the future.
