With the 2011 regular season just five days away, the Colorado Rockies have finally solidified their pitching rotation ahead of Friday’s opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field. The five starters are: Ubaldo Jimenez, Jorge De La Rosa, Jhoulys Chacin, Jason Hammel, and Esmil Rogers (KDVR).
The bullpen is: Huston Street, Rafael Betancourt, Matt Belisle, Matt Lindstrom, Felipe Paulino, Matt Reynolds, and Franklin Morales (Denver Post). A notable bullpen exclusion is Matt Daley, who will head to Colorado Springs. The only real roster hole left is backup catcher for Chris Ianetta. Jose Morales and Matt Pagnozzi have been duking it out, but Morales seems to have the edge (Denver Post).
The Rockies are in good shape and are earning respect at the national level, ranging from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram to the Kansas City Star. Colorado already crushed most of the Cactus League in spring training attendance, one of three teams (out of 15) to avoid an attendance dip in 2011 (Denver Business Journal).
