There are some celebrations that are worth waiting for, and the annual uncorking of Beaujolais Nouveau on November 17 is one such occasion. The event is wrapped in pomp and circumstance, much because French law prohibits the wine’s release before midnight on the third Thursday of November.
For 13 years, the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the French-American Chamber of Commerce has marked the occasion with Beaujolais & Beyond, a wine-infused festival touting French cuisine and culture. This year is no exception: From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on November 17, the $65 ticket ($75 at the door) gains you access to food and wine tastings, entertainment, a culinary competition, and, of course, Beaujolais Nouveau.
During the evening, 20 local chefs, including Samm Sherman (Root Down and Linger), Beau Simmons (Jonesy’s EatBar), Lacey Schwitzer (Crave Dessert Bar) and Sergio Romero (Le Grand Bistro & Oyster Bar), compete for the best pairing. Taste your way through the dishes and cast your vote—I’ll cast mine from the panel of judges.
