I’ve been fairly vocal about my aversion to the game of football. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the athleticism or enjoy the camaraderie that comes with cheering for the same goal (no pun intended) with thousands of other people; I just find it slow. That being said, I’ve always been a fan of watching field goal attempts—perhaps because it’s so obvious whether the kicker has done his job or not. So when my colleague Chris Outcalt suggested I try to kick one myself, I agreed.
As part of 5280‘s Colorado Workout series, Chris and I—along with 5280 intern and videographer Derek Kessinger—spent an afternoon with University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes assistant coach/special teams coordinator Toby Neinas, a Boulder High School graduate. Check out the video below to see if we succeeded at kicking the pigskin between the uprights. (For the record, Chris was far more successful than I was.)
