The Colorado Mammoth announced yesterday that Josh Gross will be the lacrosse squad’s new director of business operations, according to the team’s Web site. His former gig? He was the team’s play-by-play announcer on Altitude, the television network owned by the team’s owner, Stan Kroenke.

The hiring of a television personality to run a team’s business operations doesn’t sound crazy when you consider that Gross worked for more than four years as the manager of sales and public relations for National Development Program Lacrosse, a division of Kroenke Sports Enterprises that hosts lacrosse tournaments across the country.

Meanwhile, the state’s other lacrosse team, the Denver Outlaws, has been celebrating coach Brian Reese’s distinction as Major League Lacrosse Coach of the Year (via InsideLacrosse.com). The award—voted on by the head coaches and general managers of each of the league’s six teams—is largely due to the Outlaws being first to clinch a playoff spot and secure the No. 1 seed throughout the playoffs.

His team finished 9-3 this year and has amassed a record of 22-9 since Reese took over as head coach midway through the 2007 season. We’ll see if Reese’s accolades translate into playoff wins, starting with Saturday’s game against the Boston Cannons at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.
