A new report by the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies finds that child care costs more than public university tuition in 40 states, including Colorado (via 9News). The average annual cost of child care for an infant is about $12,000 a year here, whereas average college tuition from a public institution is about $6,300.
The economic liability of children is also a topic in the state Legislature, where a committee approved a bill that would make it mandatory for insurers offering individual health plans to adults—a potentially lucrative market—to also offer child-only plans to those under the age of 19 (via the Denver Business Journal).
