Pundits on the right are joining those on the left in a rare bi-partisan call for the firing of FEMA Director Michael Brown. Ultra-conservative columnist Michelle Malkin put it thusly:
This is not the time to give a weak performer the benefit of the doubt. The FEMA director’s role in the ongoing recovery effort is too important to be entrusted to a clueless political hack with such poor judgment.

Clearly, Brown, whose last job was in Colorado, will be the first head to roll in the Katrina debacle. But will that be enough to take the heat off President Bush? Or will Americans soon forget Friday’s photo op, where Bush slapped his FEMA director on the back and declared “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job.”
