Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall has officially crossed the line. As a result, this morning coach Josh McDaniels announced that Marshall has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason (via 9News).
The Denver Post reports that Marshall was kept out of practice yesterday, apparently as a punitive reaction for his blatant disrespect to the team during Wednesday’s practice.
7News caught Marshall on film, walking as his teammates were running, and kicking a ball instead of handing it to the ball boys. Marshall is in the midst of trying to get a new contract, and the Broncos don’t seem to be budging.
The National Football Post questions whether Marshall is killing the team’s season, and the overwhelming majority of NFL teams don’t trust him or his character. Pro Football Talk calls Marshall an “idiot:” His actions makes it less likely that another team would pony up what the Broncos want in trade.
All of this goes down as we head into perhaps the most scrutinized preseason game in Broncos history, with former quarterback Jay Cutler returning to town this weekend with the Chicago Bears. Cutler tells the Chicago Tribune that Sunday’s game is nothing more than an exhibition, and although he knows he won’t be greeted with flowers, he’ll be fine.
Meanwhile, the Post’s Bill Husted reports that former Broncos quarterback John Elway is getting hitched to fiancee Paige Green. One problem: She used to cheer for the Oakland Raiders. Say it ain’t so, John.
