Old habits die hard, so when the Buff Restaurant moved its business across Canyon Boulevard in early January, I must say I felt a twinge of nostalgia. I loved the old rough-around-the-edges-location where I had years worth of memories of dining with family and friends. That said, the Buff’s new location in the remodeled Black-Eyed Pea location gives the icon a fresh take without stripping it of its cozy touches.

Throughout the move (a new development is planned for the northwest corner of 28th Street and Canyon Boulevard) owner Christopher Meyer and Jacquelyn Sproul, were adamant about preserving the most beloved aspects of their restaurant. So, in addition to tables and chairs that were carried across the street from the old location to the new, they also brought along the entire Buff menu, unchanged.

Die-hard-fans can continue to “eat in the Buff”—as the saying goes—with favorites like the chicken with thick-cut bacon and French toast (pictured) and the gigantic fresh fruit bowls. The space is still decorated in photos of famous customers, but this time there’s also a view, a new bar softened with stacked stone and dimmed lighting, and real elbow room.
