Another building near the new Union Station development is beginning to take shape. Atlanta-based architectural and engineering firm John Portman & Associates recently revealed a rendering of its plans for a 303,400-square-foot project near the intersection of 18th and Wewatta streets called Union Tower West. For its first Denver project, the firm is planning a mixed-use development consisting of a hotel and office space. The hotel will have 180 rooms, while another 100,000 square feet will be devoted to offices. Plans also call for a 216-car parking garage and a landscaped plaza. The company expects the building to receive a LEED Silver rating thanks to features such as rainwater collection and green roofs, as well as the use of local building materials. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
