The Denver Nuggets’ 102-93 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder was honestly a bit boring last night, but that’s a good thing. It’s not to say Denver didn’t play well—because they did—and for once they got up early on an inferior team and maintained their pace for the entire game. All it really took was Carmelo Anthony and some good defense. Anthony was hot from the field again, scoring 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting (via The Denver Post). He scored nine of the team’s first points, and then 13 of the first 16. That’s obviously pretty good, but it’s also bad in that the rest of the team started off at a dismal 0-of-11. The Nuggets were lucky to finish the game with a 40 percent shooting average, which was just enough to overcome the Thunder’s 39.2 percent. Oklahoma City’s only real threat was Kevin Durant, a legit NBA star who continued to earn his chops by pouring in 32 points and 10 rebounds. But that was about it from the Thunder’s side. Chris “Birdman” Andersen had his best game of the season, putting up 15 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and three blocked shots. The Altitude broadcast crew chattered so much about Andersen they gave a shout-out to 5280 staff writer Robert Sanchez for our guide on how to get the Birdman’s faux-hawk (video below). Denver Stiffs noticed the how-to, as well, but proposes Birdman’s do should be called the “Mull-hawk,” “since it’s basically turning into a mullet in the back.” Call it whatever you want, as long as Birdman shows up like the guy whose energy helped propel the team to within a couple bad inbound passes from the NBA Finals last season.
