Dear Denverites,
We need to talk. When I dine at Julep, Kyle and Katy Foster’s almost two-year-old, contemporary Southern restaurant, I don’t see you there. Not enough of you, anyway. What’s going on? The Fosters, both born south of the Mason-Dixon Line, have created such a special spot at the far end of Larimer Street. I think we’re fortunate to have a chef who can deliver the classics (juicy fried chicken, Kentucky Hot Brown sandwiches, pickled shrimp, those buttery biscuits!) while simultaneously exploring a more sophisticated vision. I mean, have you tried Kyle’s wild-caught brown shrimp and heirloom grits with dill-pickled okra, or his circa-1885 roasted lamb? He also cooks from nose to tail and supports Colorado farmers and ranchers. Come spring, he’ll resume hosting lunchtime pirate-themed po’boy pop-ups Wednesday through Friday. So, please, don’t make me beg—just get over there! You can thank me later.
