Hurricane Katrina Benefit Events:
You can help raise money for Gulf Coast hurricane victims simply by hitting the town this week. Here’s a list of hurricane-related benefit events around Denver.
Sept. 7
For one night only, 20 percent of all proceeds from Mao Asian Bistro and Nine75 will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for hurricane victims.
Sept. 12
Dave Matthews Band added a fourth show to its three sold-out concerts at Red Rocks this week. Monday is “A Concert for Hurricane Relief,” with proceeds benefiting the rebuilding of communities in affected areas. Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too! Sept. 9
Beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing amongst the wildlifeit’ll be one wild party, indeed. Proceeds benefit the Red Apple Fund, a scholarship fund of the Denver Zoo. Friendship Powwow at the Denver Art Museum Sept. 10
The 16th annual celebration of Native American culture and art helps welcome a new piece of art to the museum: “Wheel” a sculpture by Cheyenne/Arapahoe artist Edgar Heap of Birds. Take the kids there to enjoy dance exhibitions, art activities, and traditional food. Sat 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Denver Art Museum. Free. Buffalo Bicycle Classic Sept. 11
Join thousands of riders on a 35-, 65-, or 100-mile route along the back roads of Boulder and southern Larimer County. The race, which begins and ends on the Boulder campus near Folsom Field, helps raise money for TIAA-CREF student scholarships. Sun. $38. Stories on Stage Sept. 11
The annual storytelling series begins this weekend with a reading of Ronald Reagan’s “Farwell Address 1992” by Former Mayor Wellington Webb.
