There is a magical force that draws some dogs to electric yellow tennis balls. The magnetism only grows when the tennis balls are tossed inside a pool, lake, or even better, a muddy pond.
Once the pooches are in the water, the action truly begins. As dogs turn into acrobats and contortionists in order to maneuver toward the ball, their facial expressions tell the tale of a hound on the hunt. Seth Casteel made capturing bright-eyed, tongue-wagging beasts underwater his profession. His photographs went viral last year and he recently put together the New York Times best-selling book, Underwater Dogs. Casteel is bringing his waterproof camera to Colorado to capture your diving dogs in action and bring awareness to the Canine & Conditioning Rehabilitation Group (CCRG).
On May 18 and 19, Front Range dogs are invited to CCRG’s indoor pool in Broomfield to take a plunge and have their photograph taken by Casteel. The 25-minute photo-shoot includes an 8×10 copy of your rover’s best face, and more prints are available for purchase. Not all dogs make good models: They must be eager to fetch and love the water. Spots are extremely limited and can be reserved by registering at 303-762-SWIM (7946).
And, if you can’t drag your pooch out of the pool when the photo-shoot is over, bring them back to the CCRG for year-round, open doggy swim. Trust us, it’s better than a mucky pond any time of year.
