Malty? Hoppy? A heaping of chocolate malt
Reviewed: October 2013
Beer connoisseur or not, take a quick look at a sixer of Boulder Beer‘s Shake Chocolate Porter and you’ll likely have a pretty good idea of what you’re in for. Boulder Beer’s chocolate-y twist on a traditional American porter resembles something of a chocolate milkshake. Or perhaps a chocolate brownie dipped in a cup of coffee. This dark brew is sweet and rich—and aptly named. The beer pours a thick mocha head, and is accompanied by a creamy mouth-feel. (Again, just what you’d expect from a chocolate beer shake.) And the dark malts even mask any hint of the brew’s 5.9-percent ABV, which is perhaps to blame for us reaching for a second bottle before we’d finished our first Shake.
Would we buy it again? We tend to stock our fridge with more traditional porters. But if chocolate beer sounds like your kind of thing, Shake won’t disappoint.
