There’s more than just crispness in the air this time of year in Denver; there’s also beer. IPAs, lagers, pilsners, and ales flowed abundantly at last week’s Great American Beer Festival, and chances are, will continue to do so in these parts. To help you navigate the hoppy waters—and make sure you get home—we suggest these five helpful easy-to-use apps. Go ahead and download a cold one.
Untappd (iOS and Android) Free
Untappd lets you see what your friends are drinking across town—or across the country— and how they liked it. The social check-in app allows members to track, rate, take photos, and share every hoppy experience on Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare. You can also create a wish list of beers you want to try.
DrinkFit (iOS and Android) $1.99
Every wondered how many more miles you need to add to your workout to burn off the fun from last night’s party? DrinkFit can tell you. Providing nutritional information for beer, wine, cocktails and liquor, DrinkFit allows you to compare more than 1,600 beverages. The My Night feature also allows you to track how much you’ve consumed over the course of the evening, if you really want to know.
DrinkTracker (iOS) $1.99
Drinking responsibly has never been easier. Estimate your blood alcohol content (BAC) with the DrinkTracker calculator app. Calculated using each drinker’s height, weight, age, and gender, the app compares your alcohol intake to your metabolic removal rate and refreshes every 60 seconds for real time updates. You can even set a target BAC and a timer that counts down to help you determine how long you need to wait to drive safely once you’ve stopped driking—or access your contacts to call or text someone for a ride home.
Today’s Beer (Android and iOS) $.99
Enjoy a new beer everyday—virtually, that is. Today’s Beer delivers a unique beer from around the globe to your phone or iPad without a trip to the bar. Rotate every beer 360 degrees to examine the unique bottles and distinct labels. Tap the brewery name and you will be directed to its website to learn more about the beer. Tweet your thoughts of the featured beer or tap the bottle to read a full profile. The app keeps a seven day history and hints at what is to come for tomorrow.
Find Craft Beer (iOS and Android) $.99
The name gives it away, but Find Craft Beer, well, finds craft beer. Using GPS, the app searches brew pubs, breweries, bars, and beer and homebrew shops to find craft beer near you. Search within a specific distance, sort by rating or distance, read reviews, and submit your own reviews and pictures. Post to Facebook and Twitter, check-in on Foursquare, or post Untappd comments right from your phone.
