Avery Brewing Company has inched another step closer to finally moving its operation from the small Boulder office park where the brewery first began more than two decades ago. Avery has long outgrown its current location, and this week announced that it broke ground on a new brewery at a 5.6-acre site at 4910 Nautilus Court in Boulder. Plans for the new facility, which will double the number of barrels of beer Avery is able to produce, has been in the works for the past three years. Avery plans to complete the $27 million, 96,000-square-foot project by January 2015.
“There’s been some pain over the last few years, especially for the crew, but their dedication and patience has been incredible,” said Avery co-founder Adam Avery in a statement. “If it wasn’t for their commitment to maximizing both the quality and the volume of the beer produced in our current facility, none of this would be possible.”
Although the brewery will open with the ability to produce 100,000 barrels of beer annually, the facility includes room to further expand production up to 500,000 barrels. But the brewery’s co-founder says the project isn’t just about expansion. “This is about making great beer,” Avery said.
Great beer, indeed. To that end, here are three classic Avery brews we look forward to drinking at its new facility.
- Joe’s Premium American Pilsner
- Ellie’s Brown Ale, which has an interesting backstory on how it got its name.
- White Rascal
