I’ve been eating my fair share of bao buns of late. Maybe because it’s Chinese New Year, or more likely because, last month, Boulder’s beloved Zoe Ma Ma opened a Union Station outpost. The eatery, which serves Chinese home-style cooking, is dangerously located a mere block from the office.
With such proximity, I can’t seem to go more than a couple days without one of Anne “Ma Ma” Zoe’s steamy buns. Made of mantou (Chinese white bread that’s steamed instead of baked) and stuffed with sweet, marinated pork, this handheld treat has become a lunchtime go-to. While other baos end up being all dough and little filling, Zoe’s hit the ideal balance of fluffy bun and saucy meat.
Of course, there’s more to explore on the menu than these little gems, including the signature CPR (chicken, potatoes, and gravy over rice) and daily specials like Thursday’s Lionhead pork meatball over rice. But never leave the premises without a bao bun.
