Aspen is not only a hotbed for the rich and famous; it’s a magnet for black bears, and one of them is prone to break-ins and attacks. Police are on the lookout for an agitated fuzzy creature armed with claws, which is suspected of attacking Maureen Hirsch late Monday night. Hirsch was working in her home office when her small dog began barking. She tells CBS4: “When I walked into the foyer all of a sudden out of the darkness came the bear’s head, and that’s all I saw really was the bear’s head, and we were like inches apart.” She screamed and tried opening the front door to let the bear out, but it struck her, leaving lacerations on her chest and back, according to Sky Hi Daily News. The injured Hirsch then fled to an upstairs bedroom and called 9-1-1. By the time police arrived, the bear was gone. Officers believe the same bear may have entered and tried to break into other homes in the area, and they will euthanize it if they find it, reports the Aspen Times.
