“Ask A Chef” is part of an on-going series in which we pose a single question to a local luminary.

For this installment, we sought out nationally recognized pastry chef Yasmin Lozada-Hissom, who is co-owner of Spuntino and the pastry chef of Duo Restaurant.

5280: Do you have a favorite cookbook?

YLH: I have several cookbooks that I go back to, but it depends on if it’s for desserts and pastries or for more savory dishes. I like Le Bernardin Cookbook, the Bread Baker’s Apprentice by Peter Reinhart, the French Laundry Cookbook, the Moro Cookbook by Samantha Clark, and anything from Alice Waters. The style of each cookbook is different, but the way that they use ingredients is similar.

Get Inspired: Eric Ripert, the celebrated executive chef of the aforementioned Le Bernardin, and Anthony Bourdain, the celeb chef, author, and mega television personality, team up on April 14 for a night of Good vs. Evil at Macky Auditorium. “Two chefs. Two unlikely friends. Two very different careers and philosophies sharing one stage.” Tickets run $45–$65, $150 for VIP.
