Brace yourself for Andrew Romanoff’s unabashed enthusiasm. Following some major victories in Democratic Party assemblies on Saturday, he’s throwing around a new word: “Romentum.” It’s meaning? Continuing to win over more grassroots support than U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, despite all odds.
“We figure we got outspent 10 to one,” Romanoff says about the run-up to Saturday’s gatherings (via 7News). “So, yes, we’re pleasantly surprised to do as well as we did today, and I think it’s a sign of things to come. I feel very good about where we are.”
Romanoff claimed victories in Arapahoe, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, Boulder, El Paso, and Pueblo counties, among others.
Still, Bennet campaign spokesman Trevor Kincaid is also heartened by the results, claiming his candidate has “built a grassroots operation from scratch. We are thrilled with the enthusiasm we’re seeing throughout the state and are looking forward to building on our broad support” (via The Denver Post). But Politico casts the end result as one that clearly favors Romanoff, describing his campaign as an “aggressive challenge” that leads 57 percent to 42 percent among delegates.
