Another college football season is mercifully coming to a close in Colorado, after programs in the state have stumbled and fumbled this fall. In Boulder, the University of Colorado Buffaloes will play their final home game tomorrow against Kansas State. The Buffs’ 4-6 season has been a train wreck, culminating in the firing of coach Dan Hawkins last week, but, The Denver Post points out, if the Buffs can somehow upset K-State and then the University of Nebraska, they’ll be bowl eligible. Off the field, university officials have formed a search committee to find a replacement for Hawkins, according to CUBuffs.com. Former CU coach Bill McCartney has already gotten a call for an interview, reports The Denver Post.

The Post also mentions another leading candidate: Air Force coach Troy Calhoun, who led the Falcons to a 35-20 win over UNLV last night (recap via ESPN.com). Air Force finishes its season 8-4 and has a good chance to play in a bowl game. The Colorado State Rams will wrap up their dismal 3-8 season tomorrow, notes the Fort Collins Coloradoan. The Rams hope to claim the Bronze Boot, the trophy that goes to the winner of the Border War between CSU and its rival to the north, the University of Wyoming.
