An expansive front porch is an essential element of any farmhouse—which is why architect Todd Remington made the veranda a prominent feature of this home, built in 2013 and inspired by the owner’s love of horses and dressage. Interior designer Lane Oliver helped choose the porch’s Reed Bros. furnishings; extra touches like the antique washtub planter (from Heidelberg Antiques) and the cushion covers with vintage-style tie fasteners bring “the kind of charming detail you’d find in an old farmhouse,” Oliver says.
And the flooring, porcelain tiles that look like wood planks but require no refinishing, makes for easy enjoyment. “It’s not just a porch,” Remington says. “It’s a living space. It’s about talking to your neighbors and bringing people in, in a meaningful way.”
