While developing products for what was then Adidas-Salomon and Pearl Izumi, CJ Riggins never once worked on a piece for women who wear size 16 or larger. “The consensus among high-end brands is that plus-size women aren’t active, which is ridiculous,” Riggins says. She plans to correct that blunder with Rsport, a premium performance wear company that produces apparel for women sizes 10 through 34 (dubbed “6X”). Riggins, based in Lafayette, designed her line specifically for full figures by making areas of friction (between the thighs, under the arms) seam-free while also tapping leading fabric innovators like Boulder’s 37.5 Technology to help control core body temperature. The startup launched on March 31 with six products, including a tank top ($34), capris ($84), and a fleece jacket ($86). Beginning this summer, the company will showcase its line at athletic events around the nation, such as Aurora’s TriBella Triathlon in June.
