Menswear became a new focus in the Denver shopping scene last year with the opening of Japanese street fashion store Tikwid and Amsterdam-based Suitsupply. As of this week, men have yet another go-to shop: Armitage & McMillan.
Owners Daniel Armitage and Darin McMillan solidified their friendship in seventh grade over a mutual appreciation of Air Jordan high-tops. Since then, they’ve worked their way up the rungs of the men’s style industry, including stints in New York City, where Armitage worked for Unis New York and McMillan was a buyer for Brooklyn hot spot Smith+Butler and lifestyle brand the Brooklyn Circus.
On a trip to Denver in 2008, the pair realized none of the labels they worked with in the Big Apple were represented locally, and they set a goal to open their own menswear store here. Fast-forward to today: With a curated selection of casual clothing and accessories—plus grooming products and limited home goods—A&M is for the guy who wants to look good but isn’t too concerned with being on-trend. The shop is stocked with classic, well-made brands, which emphasize good fit: Steven Alan shirts, hoodies by Saturdays Surf NYC, leather goods from Billykirk and, of course, closet basics from Unis.
Up next: Online shopping launches in the next few weeks, and the pair is planning a pop-up shop with FairEnds (L.A.-made urban hats and caps) in the fall.
