If ever there was a year for a Christmas miracle, it’s 2020. While we can’t promise any supernatural events, we can tell you about Miracle on Main Street. Yes, the popular Christmas-themed bar is back, it’s in downtown Louisville, and it’s possible that the pandemic made it even better.
Because dine-in eating and drinking are prohibited, the pop-up consists of mostly individual greenhouses, which makes the holiday experience that much more magical. The dozen heated greenhouses and swanky VIP suite are decked with wreaths, reindeer, candy canes, trees, and thousands of lights. There are even a couple Harry Potter-themed greenhouses, so you can live out that dream of Christmas in the Hogwarts Great Hall.
Another bonus is the fogging spray, which kills 99.9 percent of bacteria and is doused on everything by Miracle elves between parties. The bar also leaves 30 minutes between each 1.5-hour greenhouse seating to let the spaces air out. To keep everyone even safer, temperatures are taken upon entry and hand sanitizer is a must before getting the chance to order a Jingle Balls Nog and Fruitcake Flip. And each table or greenhouse should be occupied by members of a single household.
If the weather is nice, there are extra tables outside set up for walk-ups, but the coziest option is definitely the heated greenhouses; reservations are recommended. (The pop-up’s interior, the former location of Por Wine House, is also decorated beautifully, but it’s off limits for now due to the latest indoor dining restrictions.)
This iteration of Miracle is more family-friendly than the insanely-popular versions that took over Avanti, the Arvada Tavern, and a space in Larimer Square last year. Young revelers can order build-your-own hot chocolates and even create their own gingerbread masterpieces each Saturday in December. Popcorn, charcuterie boards, and sweet treats from sister restaurant Bittersweet are available for snacking.
If you don’t want to venture out but still want to get in on the Christmas bar action, Miracle on Main Street is selling takeout cocktails, too. In Denver, the in-person bar events have been canceled due to COVID restrictions, but to-go holiday cocktails are still available for pick-up out of Super Mega Bien in RiNo.
If you go: Miracle on Main Street is open Tuesday-Thursday, 4–9 p.m., and Friday–Saturday, 1–9 p.m. (last call is at 8 p.m.). The bar is closed December 25.
