4 New Colorado Hotels Perfect for Summer Vacationing

Don’t let spring’s rainy weather get you down. Vacation season (aka, summer) is almost upon us. Thankfully, hoteliers have been paying attention, opening new properties across the state. Here, four places we’re excited to check into this summer.

The Armstrong Hotel in Fort Collins

Opened: April
Because: Though it’s not exactly new—the Armstrong originally started hosting guests in 1923—the 54-room hotel’s recent renovations and design overhaul make it feel like new. It added nine guest rooms, updated and expanded the lobby (though the original tin ceiling remains), and refreshed the menu at Ace Gillett’s Lounge with help from the team behind Death & Co.
While You’re There: Suit up to experience the boulder-lined boat chute, rock features, and holes in your kayak or on your SUP—or go with the classic option and hop in a tube—through the Poudre River Whitewater Park, slated to open in late summer.

Hilton Garden Inn Denver Union Station

Opened: April
Because: Staycations are the new vacations. The new 233-room hotel in Denver’s buzzing Union Station neighborhood was built in an “L” shape around Hose House No. 1, one of the city’s first firehouses (and soon to open its doors as a restaurant, Woodie Fisher). Guests are a short walk from Coors Field and the rest of downtown, but they can also just lounge the hours away in the 54-foot, indoor lap pool. Don’t forget to say hi to Dave, the property’s Golden Retriever ambassador.
While You’re There: Meander into the city to check out the new Free Market bazaar, a collection of nine retailers and a cafe and coming-soon restaurant from chef Kelly Whitaker in the super-cool Dairy Block.

LOGE in Breckenridge

Opening: June 22
Because: LOGE Camps gets the Colorado lifestyle. The company—whose name is short for “Live Outside, Go Explore!”—transforms deserted motels, hotels, and hostels in outdoor-loving locales into contemporary base camps for adventure. The dog-friendly Breckenridge location (the company’s fifth, but its first in Colorado) took over the Wayside Inn and has hotel- and hostel-style rooms, on-property gear rentals—for biking the nearby single-track trails—fire pits, an on-site cafe and bar, and free live music. (Keep an eye out for a second Centennial State lodge to open in Estes Park.)
While You’re There: When the afternoon thunderstorms roll in, check out VR Arcade Breckenridge, where you can take on zombies or experience a Wild West shootout in the town’s first virtual reality arcade, which opened in January.

River Run in Granby

Opening: August 1 (reservations are being accepted for July as part of the property’s soft opening)
Because: There’s something for everyone. Literally. Situated along the Colorado River, the resort includes more than 400 lodging options, ranging from cottages to glamping tents, yurts, and Conestoga wagons to RV sites. The property also encompasses a lake for stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking; two restaurants; a pool; a wellness center; bocce ball courts; and an off-leash dog park.
While You’re There: Take your pick from the more than 300 miles of hiking trails in Rocky Mountain National Park, just 15 miles away.
