If you’re part of the 9-to-5 workforce, you probably live for the weekends—especially the extra-long ones. (We know we do.) In addition to being a glorious three-day weekend, Labor Day is summer’s symbolical finale—meaning you’re pretty much obligated to make the most of it. Here are a few stand-out options for enjoying your holiday break in the Denver metro area.
A Taste of Colorado: In its 33rd year, this blowout event goes beyond its culinary showcase (taste bites from more than 50 local eateries) to include an extensive list of artisans and vendors, plus performance art and music hosted from six different stages—including Boyz II Men, Blues Traveler, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Food tickets will be available for purchase on site (bring cash!) and small portions to full meals will be served. Friday to Monday, hours vary; Civic Center Park; free
Riot Fest Denver 2016: If you prefer to make a ruckus this weekend—with a rodeo-themed backdrop and BBQ cook-off no less—then this event at the National Western Complex might be your jam. This year’s Riot Fest will showcase talents like The Original Misfits, Nas, Fitz & The Tantrums, Death Cab For Cutie, and Deftones, among many others, and feature sideshows and carnival rides. Friday to Sunday, 12–10p.m.; National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St.; $85–$200
(Drink Beer and) Watch the Rockies: We all know that the Rockies’ performance has been, ahem, underwhelming. But if you haven’t been to a game yet, you’re missing out. A ballgame at Coors Field is the perfect bookend to summer in Denver—just don’t forget to grab a hot dog and an entirely too-expensive but obligatory ice-cold brew. Friday to Monday, times vary; Coors Field, 2001 Blake St.; $4–$100
Fise World Denver 2016: Extreme sports enthusiasts and amateurs alike are welcome at the FISE World Series. Denver is one of five international cities to host this year’s tour, which launched in France in 1997, and now attracts top skateboarder and BMX athletes from around the globe. Saturday to Monday, times vary; Sculpture Park, Denver Performing Arts Complex; free
Brews and Views: If you feel like sipping on a beer while taking a stroll through a beautiful garden (and maybe brush up on your botanical knowledge), then a quick venture over to Littleton will be your best bet this weekend. The Hudson Gardens is hosting their 2nd Annual Brews & Views Beer Fest, which will host more than 40 local craft breweries, live music, lawn games, and great views (weather permitting). Saturday, 2–5 p.m.; Hudson Gardens, 6115 S. Santa Fe Dr.; $25
