Even after nearly three years, COVID-19 still looms over the Front Range’s culinary industries. Despite indications from the Colorado Restaurant Association (CRA) that the total number of restaurants and bars increased statewide in both 2021 and 2022, inflation rates—linked to disruptions in supply chain and consumer demand related to COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine—have reached record highs. It’s an uphill battle for eating and drinking establishments. Since many cannot hike up menu prices at the same rate as the rising costs of ingredients, labor, rent, equipment, and maintenance, inflation is crushing restaurants’ profitability, according to the CRA. While some eateries are combating the issue in creative ways, others have closed shop for now or for good. Below is a running list of all the spots known to have ceased operations since March 2020; we will continually update this list.
