When One Tony’s Market Closes, Another Opens

Tony’s Meats & Market is giving itself an early 40th birthday present: The specialty grocer is relocating its longstanding Broadway location to south Denver as the first announced tenant in the Happy Canyon Wine & Market, which is slated to open in the spring.

The Broadway store will close its doors on December 31. (The other three market locations, as well as the catering and commissary divisions, headquartered in Centennial, will remain untouched.)

“What I’m really trying to do is spin this company into the future,” says Daniel Rosacci, president and CEO. “It’s an exciting shopping experience for our customers.”

The new Tony’s will sit in the middle of the 42,000-square-foot venue, next to a large liquor store. It will be smaller but still house all of the products (and an oyster bar!) customers have come to expect—meats, seafood, produce, deli, grab-and-go items—in a more curated fashion. Instead of 25 varieties of olive oil, there may only be five options, of varying prices. Rosacci says it will represent the best of Tony’s. “This is an exciting opportunity for us to be able to sell our greatest hits…and cater to our customers on a whole new level,” says Jessica Wolford, Tony’s marketing manager.

The other tenants haven’t been officially announced but may include a pizzeria, bakery, Asian bistro, flower shop, and coffeeshop. There will be common area seating around the building and a full-service bar.

The food/market hall trend is showing no signs of slowing down. Rosacci says he plans to expand this Tony’s concept to other metro Denver locations in the coming years.
