Now that you’ve officially given up on your (misguided) New Year’s resolution to ditch sweets, head over to the four-month-old Rolling Pin Bakeshop, a Five Points passion project for co-owners and neighborhood residents Jay Thomas and Michael Martinez. Thomas spent the past two years baking pastries for neighboring Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen, and now, with the opening of his own charming cafe, he and his team are creating confections for both endeavors in a shared kitchen. From airy croissants (sweet and savory) to crispy-creamy Napoleons, the Rolling Pin Bakeshop’s pastries are worth falling off the wagon for. But the true gems at this homestyle spot are the decadent four-story cakes. Every flavor—coconut (pictured), black forest, carrot, red velvet—is a must-try. Pick one up to feed a Super Bowl party crowd for $65, or head in on Valentine’s Day for an over-the-top slice ($6) that’s big enough to share…or not.
