Be it a mindful pleasure or a necessary crutch, coffee is a staple for many of us. Great news: There’s a new brew in town. In collaboration with the Crafty Ladies Beer Club (an all-female collective of beer aficionados and home brewers), Epic Brewing Company just released Kaffeina, a nitro brew that is sure to give you a buzz.
Sure, we’ve sipped coffee-infused beers before. But not like this one. Rather than turning to the typical stout or porter style for the base, head brewer Kevin Crompton opted instead for a lighter cream ale, a choice that has more in common stylistically with a lager.
The velvety, malt-forward ale is infused with carefully roasted Ethiopian Sidama Deri Kochoha from Novo Coffee. The beer is light enough for all seasons, but packs a punch with its robust coffee aroma and bright flavor. The nitrogen carbonation makes it smooth like a cold brew, and the malt rounds things out with a subtle butterscotch sweetness.
“Kaffeina is perfect with brunch, but I also love it as an afternoon refreshment, or even after dinner,” says Epic’s Colorado sales manager John Turk. And while beer in the morning may seem unconventional (at least to some), if there was ever a cold one worth waking up for, this is it.
Kaffeina was released at the Epic taproom in RiNo last Friday, and is available on nitro or in 22-ounce bombers. Look for it this week in select liquor stores and on draft at Highland Tap and Burger, Bar Dough, and Sloan’s Lake Tap and Burger.
