In case it’s not on your calendar, April 20, affectionately known (to many) as National Weed Day is on Wednesday. As part of the festivities, Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen in Five Points will host a 4/20 pop-up for both partakers and those simply looking for comfort food.
On that one day, the regular menu will be replaced by an ode to stoner food: pizza bagels; bagel dogs; Philly Cheesesteak bagels; rugelach in flavors like cookie butter, Nutella, and Snickers; and the sure-to-be-a-hit chicken and waffle bagels. The latter is a bagel waffle (the batter of which will incorporate tiny maple syrup nuggets) topped with matzo meal–fried chicken, cheddar cheese, and maple syrup sauce. Also on the docket: A sesame bagel doughnut collaboration from Rosenberg’s and Dazed & Confuzed.
“This [temporary menu] has been a great exercise for my staff in creating, testing, and costing out items,” owner Josh Pollack says. It’s also a way to test items that could appear as specials throughout the year or land on the permanent menu. That will almost certainly be the case with the chicken and waffle bagel. Another item pegged for regular rotation is the ice cream bagel sandwich, where cinnamon-raisin mini bagels are layered with slabs of rugelach ice cream.
In addition to the 4/20 eats, Rosenberg’s regular breakfast sandwiches will be available all day, because, really, isn’t the Jersey Boy’s fried egg, double Taylor ham, American cheese, and ketchup on an egg bagel, the very definition of stoner food?
