As the last full month of ski season, March often correlates with an uptick in “personal” days taken at offices across Colorado. And this year, we have a new justification: night skiing at Steamboat. In December, the resort started offering post-sundown carving (day lift-ticket holders need to pay a small additional fee, starting at $20), making it one of just four Colorado ski areas with an evening program—meaning we can make the drive and hit the slopes all in the same day. High-tech lights illuminate more than 1,000 vertical feet of terrain along the Christie Peak Express (five runs, ranging from greens to blacks) without polluting the quaint town’s cozy vibe with excessive brightness. The best part? You can avoid the daylight crowds, rent equipment, and ski or ride this month from 6 to 9 p.m. for just $35.
