When a pink-clad crowd of 55,000 descends on the streets surrounding the Pepsi Center on October 3, they’ll be racing for more than a medal: Denver’s Race for the Cure, the celebrated 5K run/walk that raises money for breast cancer research, treatment, and education, is one of the largest in the world. Last year, the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was the second-highest fund-raiser of the 125 Komen chapters worldwide, thanks in large part to Denver’s race. Since its founding in 1993, the Denver affiliate has raised more than $25 million and is currently funding 37 Colorado projects, from medical treatments to screening services to education programs. Pink never looked so good.
