The oddsmakers at Sportsbook gave Colorado State University-Pueblo freshman Jessica Hartman 40 to 1 odds of nabbing the Miss USA crown last night at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas (via Point-Spreads). But—with Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony among the judges, according to Colorado Sports Desk—Hartman finished as third runner-up, as Miss Michigan Rima Fakih won the Miss USA pageant.
“I hope all of Pueblo is proud of her. Just being one of the top 51 in the country and for her to make it to (third runner-up) certainly says a lot about the type of young lady she is and the young lady she’s going to be,” says Rod Slyhoff, president of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce (via the Pueblo Chieftain).
Hartman, 19, also a figure skater, told the audience that she grew up on a cattle ranch. When asked by American Olympic ice skater Johnny Weir during the interview portion of the contest whether social websites should be regulated for content, she said that responsibility lies with the users. “We should be kind and caring to everyone no matter what they look like and believe in,” she responded.
