October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, I find it especially important to acknowledge organizations that are working to eradicate this terrible disease and that support women’s causes in general. So even if you missed the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, don’t despair: There are still plenty of ways for the fashion-focused to get involved in the cause.

Larimer Square’s Apricot Lane Boutique is hosting an in-store “Pink Party” on Saturday, October 13 (2 to 6 p.m.) featuring a goodie bar serving pink cookies, candies, and drinks, as well as 10 percent off all merchandise. Plus, enter the chance to win gift certificates to the Square’s restaurants among other prizes. A percentage of the proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Society.

Centennial’s Pampered Passions Fine Lingerie has long specialized in fitting breast cancer patients (they even have a stop-in-shop at Porter Hospital) in addition to having a regular lineup of sexy underpinnings. The store is hosting a champagne brunch on Sunday, October 21 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to celebrate cancer survivors and benefit the AMC Cancer Fund in support of the University of Colorado Cancer Center. Julie Aigner-Clark, the inventor of Baby Einstein and a cancer survivor herself, will speak at noon about the importance of feeling beautiful during and after cancer treatment.

In addition to breast cancer survivors receiving 20 percent off any purchase all month long, SOL is hosting a bra drive for the Gathering Place.
