Duluth Trading Company, a Midwestern clothing and recreation store, opened a 20,000-square-foot brick-and-mortar in Thornton last week. Founded nearly three decades ago in Duluth, Minnesota, the brand’s ethos is functional work and lifestyle apparel that appeals to anyone familiar with dirt-smudged knees and elbow grease: gardeners, brewmasters, bike commuters, farmers, ceramicists, carpenters, anglers, outdoor recreationalists, and so on.
Duluth Trading Company’s Colorado location is its furthest west store to date. Over the past several years, the company has experienced rapid growth—and for good reason. Designs are created to withstand variable, hardcore weather conditions, tough work, and a lifestyle full of movement. The brand also has a sense of humor, such what might be the world’s funniest underwear commercials and the Longtail T-shirt, which was created to solve the infamous problem of plumber’s crack.
One year of 5280 for just $19.95 $12. That’s only $1 per issue!
Aside from base-layers and outerwear, you’ll find tools, board games, travel luggage and hygienic products inside Duluth Trading Company’s Thornton digs. We recently visited to see what all they had to offer. Check out the slideshow below for eight of our top picks for gals and guys.
Women’s Lifetime Leather Tote Bag: Dirt and smudges easily brush off of this large tote, the leather looks even better with time, and it’s large enough to fit a laptop.
Alaskan Hardgear Men’s Alopex Baselayer Bottoms:
The Thornton store features a designated mini-shop of the Alaskan Hardgear line: baselayers and outerwear that feature extra reinforcement, advanced fabrics, and reflective piping for ultra-rugged conditions and jobs. This new baselayer is the first with built-in knee pads. On freezing days, pull them on beneath work pants or ski outerwear.
Women’s Wrinklefighter Shirt: It’s finally here: Women have been asking for their version of the men’s wrinkle-free, business casual shirt. The Thornton store is one of the few stores in the country where the shirt is available (at time of publication). Innovative features include underarm gussets—extra fabric for freer range of motion—an interior button that prevents a button-gap across the bust, and a hidden piece of shammy fabric for cleaning glasses
Men’s Fire Hose Work Pants: These cotton-canvas pants repel water and stains, feature pockets within pockets, and have a crotch gusset—bikers love them. Ladies’ versions are available, too.
Women’s No-Yank Tank:
“This tank sells like hot cakes,” says Store Manager Lonnie Ostransky. For several weeks this year, the No-Yank Tank was the brand’s overall top-seller in gross dollar amount, despite having a lower price tag ($14.50). The design is slightly longer and doesn’t twist or creep up.
Men’s Alaskan Hardgear Boar’s Nest Flannel Shirt:
Per request, this new fall shirt finally includes the chamois fabric for glasses that’s included in all of the women’s flannels. The underarms are gusseted for greater range of motion, and the fabric has a quick-dry finish to repel water and dry fast.
Beard Oil: “Lumberjack Simple Great Beard Oil will take the beard that you can scrub pans with and make it soft,” Ostransky says. He also noted that “Date Nite” is the best seller.
